Daddy's Boy!
I am Rulla and I live here in Tampere with my father, Hyrrä. Therefore my dad is a single parent (but doesn't receive any alimony from my mum - that's rather strange, isn't it ;)) I've been living with dad ever since I was eight weeks old and we get along absolutely fabulously. He's my best friend, my jogging buddy, dinner companion - plus he's the best (chewing) toy a puppy could ever hope for.. and despite me leaving puppyhood behind and becoming a junior, I still like to give him a friendly little bite every now and then - most of all I enjoy chewing his lips, which he seems to enjoy a lot (not!). When I was a small puppy I used to hitch-hike hanging on to his long ears with my sharp little teeth.. this way I could move around a lot faster with ease! Trust me and try this at home, cocker kids..
Just one day old; photo courtesy of my breeders at Kennel Benchmark Man, was I tiny back then... exploring the bath facilities at my new home. Didn't take me such a long time to outgrow this tub, though..
Mum calls me a dream come true.. at least when I'm on my best behaviour! She says dad's her all time favourite dog, though, but I'm trying hard to become as close to perfect as possible, so I can be just as good - maybe, someday? The reason why I'm a fulfillment of mum's dreams is that I was born with these, at first barely visible, tan markings. Years before, mum wanted a black and tan cocker. Then she wandered upon a web site with the cutest little blue roan tan cocker puppy, Milton, on it. She watched Milton grow and figured this was exactly the kind of a cocker boy she, too, would like to have one day. But first she got my daddy. And fell in love, head over heels. When daddy's breeder told mum she could, perhaps, mate my dad with a cocker girl called Mona (one of mum's absolute favourites!), mum was over the moon. During a trip to Åland, mum and Mariann (my breeder) discussed the somewhat distant but oh so very interesting possibility of tan puppies in the upcoming litter. Mum was wishful, but didn't really dare to think about it again after the initial conversation.
In October we were born, and mum received information of us via SMS during the night. The following morning she heard the full story, the number of boys and girls (2+4), and the fact that some of us were looking kinda funny.. After checking and double-checking, one boy and possibly one girl, too, seemed to have the slightest hints of tan on our heads. Mum had wanted a puppy from this litter. Now I was the only thought on her mind: a little tan boy, sired by her dream boy, a dream puppy.. That's enough to blow your mind, really. Mum got a picture of me from Anett, my other breeder. There I was, sleeping on the palm of her hand, just one day old. Mum says I looked rather funny, with my mask somewhat irregular and all, but it was nevertheless one hundred percent love at first sight. And as I've grown up, mum's always been just as crazy about me, and even more.. I look exactly the way she always dreamt I would (actually better), and as I grow older, I will undoubtedly begin to show even more of my father's exceptionally wonderful personality, which has made him my mum's "dog soulmate", with the perfect personality to match hers.
Learning proper dog show life and behaviour, at the age of 6 months, tutored at the Hämeenlinna show by my favourite aunt Sara! Daddy's teaching me too: me and daddy in our mobile home all set to go home after Aptus Show 2004 with dad's trophies and food plus our ribbons.
